Saint Cybi
Cybi a Christian raised boy went on to travel through Rome and Jerusalem where he became a priest a bishop and saint spreading the word and renewing the spirits of many. After returning to his home in Cornwall later in his life he had come to hear of his father’s death and that he would be king of Cornwall. Cybi politely declined the offer and instead traveled through Cornwall spreading the word of god and building churches. After his time in Cornwall, he traveled to South Wales where he again built and started many churches. After spending some time in Ireland he sailed to north Wales.
Welcomed in north Wales by king Maelgwn Gwynedd he was given his own fort near the Holy Islands which would become Caergybi a welsh name for Holyhead. It is here at Holyhead where he started one of the largest monasteries and now where the great Saint Cybi church is located. He passed away in the sixth century on November eighth in the year 555. Saint Cybi was a great man who served God and many people of the welsh community.
Given what we know about Saint Cybi it would be an honour to share the name of one of history’s greatest intellectual leaders.
