The name Ceredig is a Welsh variant of Cedric and it means “cherished”. It is not currently very popular but it has a uniqueness to it.

Ceredig was not listed in the top 1,000 in 2016. Its counterpart, Cedric, however, was. Ceredig saw its highest peak in popularity in the mid-1970’s.
Famous People with the Name
History shows that there was a little-known king named Ceredig ap Cunedda who was the king of Ceredigion. He is believed to have been born around c. 415 and passed on between c.450-470. He is believed to have arrived in what is now Wales during an Irish invasion and to have helped drive them out. As a reward for his bravery, it is believed that his father gave him most of the southern territories of West Wales. That territory was supposedly named Ceredigion after him.
The only other known celebrity with the name was the political activist turned pub landlord, Huw Ceredig. However, he was most well-known for playing Reg Harris on the BBC Wales soap opera, Pobol y Cwm (people of the valley). He passed on in 2011 at the age of 69 due to complications of diabetes and pneumonia.
Another famous Ceredig is Iolo Ceredig Jones, a former Welsh international chess player, who also wrote a Welsh language book on chess.
